Grit

In general, creatures have Grit equal to their HD. In the case where a monster’s HD is 1-X, they have 0 Grit. Creatures use d8 Grit Dice, mirroring the improved survivability of a Fighter.

Grit is a representation of a creature’s martial prowess. For normal animals whose HD primarily comes from their size, Grit should be reduced in equal measure to increases in Flesh.

Flesh

Flesh is a representation of physicality, and scales quadratically with size. Small/Medium creatures have 1d6 Flesh, while larger ones have more. Titanic creatures are entire locations unto themselves and cannot reasonably be modeled by Flesh. Damaging them requires more than just a well-placed sword blow.

Size Flesh Examples
Tiny 1 Flesh Cat, Frog, Pixie, Spider, Weasel
Small/Medium 1d6 Flesh Eagle, Humanoid, Sheep, Wolf
Large 2d6 Flesh Young Dragon, Horse, Grizzly, Lion, Ogre, Ox, Rhino
Huge 4d6 Flesh Adult Dragon, Elephant, Giant, Orca, Treant, T-Rex
Gargantuan 8d6 Flesh Diplodocus, Paraceratherium, Roc, Sperm Whale
Titanic N/A Godzilla, Kraken, Lion-Turtle, Sandworm

Some monsters effectively have no physical body to attack, such as incorporeal undead, swarms, or illusions. These have 0 Flesh and only Grit, which represents the forces binding it together. These creatures are thereby immune to criticals, poison, sneak attacks, and other actions that damage Flesh directly.

Creatures take fall damage proportional to their mass. While Tiny creatures are generally immune to fall damage, larger creatures take 1 Flesh damage per 10 ft fallen for each Flesh Dice they have. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Violence

Monsters have Violence equal to their Grit Dice, capped at 15. Unlike PCs, they may be able to make multiple attacks per Round. They generally do not add MIG or AGI to their damage.

Saves

Saves are roughly determined by a creature’s Grit Dice. Their base Save score is:

(10 + Grit Dice) / 2

For creatures that are particularly strong, quick, forceful, or perceptive, a Boon to the corresponding Saves may be applied. Similarly, a Bane may be applied to the Saves of weak, slow, mindless, or dull creatures.

Morale

The scale of Morale has been expanded from 0-20, and is now tested with a d20 instead of 2d6. To convert from 2-12 Morale, see the following chart:
